Cara Slattery

Cara Slattery is an author, presenter and teacher leader in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage school district near Minneapolis, Minnesota. In her almost 20 years in education, inclusion and involvement have been hallmarks of her practice. Whether working with students or adults, she creates an excitement that is engaging and infectious. She brings experience and expertise in the areas of student engagement, literacy, and technology integration, and has a passion for students taking charge of their own learning through student-led discussion, inquiry, and project-based learning.

Cara is an intermediate teacher, but has filled various roles in elementary and middle school settings. She has taught 5/6 multi-age, special education, sixth grade, been a magnet program coordinator, data and assessment teacher coach, enrichment specialist, and technology integrationist. Regardless of her role, she brings outside-the-box ideas and energy to her work. Contributions include facilitating collaborative teams, coaching teachers to use data and assessments, and designing and delivering professional development around literacy, math, and technology integration.

Cara’s mission has always been to push students and teachers with rigorous content in a welcoming and fun atmosphere. She has been recognized as a TIES (Technology and Educational Services) Exceptional Teacher, a District Literacy Curriculum Developer and school district Teacher of the Year. Cara has presented at multiple national conferences including the ASCD Conference on Teaching Excellence, ASCD Annual Conference, the TIES Educational Technology Conference, and the Scholastic Principal’s Reading Summit.
