Debby Burton is a dedicated and passionate educator with 33 years of experience in mathematics education. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, she was named Corporation Teacher of the Year in 2010 and was subsequently a semifinalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year. She is also a recipient of the prestigious Eli Lilly Teacher Creativity Grant, which further highlights her commitment to innovation in teaching.
Throughout her career, Debby has taken on numerous leadership roles, including mathematics department chair, academic team leader, and professional learning team (PLT) leader for her grade level. She also served on the district’s professional learning community (PLC) committee, playing a pivotal role in shaping educational practices at the district level. Her belief that every student can learn mathematics has been a guiding principle in her teaching.
Debbie earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from Indiana University and a master’s degree in administration from Butler University. Despite her qualifications for administrative roles, she chose to stay in the classroom—driven by her love for teaching and her desire to inspire students to appreciate and excel in mathematics.
