James E. Savage
James Savage is an associate professor and postgraduate student at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. There, he teaches English academic writing courses while pursuing his PhD in writing and rhetoric. He has more than 20 years of experience as an educator teaching age groups ranging from seventh grade to post-secondary graduate students.

James Savage is an associate professor and postgraduate student at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. There, he teaches English academic writing courses while pursuing his PhD in writing and rhetoric. He has more than 20 years of experience as an educator teaching age groups ranging from seventh grade to post-secondary graduate students.
He also served as the course liaison between the George Mason English department and INTO Mason, where he helped to develop curricula, onboard new faculty, and co-coordinate various undergraduate courses. James’s teaching experience includes seventh-grade English and history in Phoenix, Arizona, and middle school and high school English in Silver Spring, Maryland.
James’s belief in developing students’ autonomy and problem-solving skills across academic, social, and emotional contexts, as well as his pursuit of language justice for all students, has led him to present to faculty at George Mason University on topics ranging from self-questioning to linguistic noticing. He has also helped develop several writing courses at George Mason, and he was nominated for the 2021 George Mason University Online Teaching Excellence Award (OTEA).
James received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan, a master of fine arts in fiction from George Mason University, and a master of arts in liberal arts from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland.
