Karen Matteson serves as an instructional coach for the Cortland Enlarged City School District in Cortland, New York, where she specializes in growing teams and impacting learning through the PLC process. Her work of guiding teams to implement a guaranteed and viable curriculum includes the use of assessments for learning, data analysis, improved instructional practices, and collective response to student learning. During her 25 years in education, Karen has served as an elementary and middle school math teacher, a team leader, and an elementary math instructional specialist. She currently supports five buildings across the district. She is passionate about student and adult learning, building strong collaborative teams, and coaching for an unwavering commitment to learning for all.
Karen has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching at the local, regional, and state levels; is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; and is proud to be a practitioner in a Model PLC at Work® school in the state of New York. Additionally, she is an adjunct instructor at the State University of New York College at Cortland.
Karen holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s in elementary and early secondary education, specializing in mathematics, from the State University of New York College at Cortland. She has a certification in nursery through ninth grade.
