Leading A Culture of Reading (edWeb) Webinar

Attendees will learn practical ways to involve multiple stakeholders in developing a productive and celebratory reading culture in schools and classrooms.

The webinar begins with an overview of why it is important for educators to embrace the opportunities that establishing an authentic reading culture and routine offer. There are references and connections to the relationship between reading volume and achievement and future-ready skills. Strategies and practices are shared to invite students to sustain engagement in reading, to participate in a reading community, and to be reflective about their own reading identities, habits, and behaviors. There is an emphasis on designing relevant and joyful reading experiences that position students to be leaders of their own learning. Authentic examples from classrooms and schools are shown throughout the webinar to contextualize the ideas that are shared. Resources are presented for attendees to bring back to their schools and classrooms to start implementing their learning right away.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn practical ways to cultivate a culture of reading in schools and classrooms.
  • Gain plans for how various stakeholders (students, teachers, administrators, caregivers, community members) can contribute to a child’s reading life.
  • Reflect on how celebrating reading as a social experience can build community and joy in schools and classrooms.
