Parentships in a PLC Workshop: Forming and Sustaining School-Home Relationships with Families
During this 1-Day Workshop, participants will gain strategies for how to build better parent engagement and collaboration with your school community to better support all of your students. Each participant will learn about a “Parentship” and how to purposely build a guiding coalition to move this work forward in their schools. Participants will also be given several easy-to-implement strategies for their own collaborative teams and school communities along with time and tools to think through that process.
The 1-Day Workshop will be broken up into three sessions. The first session will be a comprehensive overview of the research and model of an effective Parentship. This overview will be followed by two more sessions; one to intentionally focus on individual classroom strategies and one to intentionally focus on team-based strategies for implementation.
This session is based on a book of the same title (Solution Tree Press, 2022) authored by Dr. Kyle Palmer.
Participants in this session will:
- Understand how to create an education triangle of collaboration between parents, educators and students
- Learn how to create Mission, Vision, and Collective Commitment statements to build their own “Parentship”
- Receive numerous classroom-based strategies to enhance your Parentship and engage effectively with parents and community
- Receive numerous team-based strategies to enhance your Parentship and engage effectively with parents and community
Participants in this session will “take away” the following from this workshop:
- A detailed plan for a Parentship Success Team comprised of school and community stakeholders with an action plan and timeline to begin to implement this work.
- 1–2 individual classroom strategies “ready to go” once you return back to your classroom that will help increase parent relationships with your families
- 1–2 team-based strategies “ready to go” once you return back to your schools and are able to meet as a collaborative team that will help increase parent relationships with your families
