Amanda L. Yurick

Amanda L. Yurick, PhD, BCBA-D, COBA, is an associate professor in special education at Cleveland State University. She currently teaches graduate and undergraduate students pursuing licensure in special education and/or applied behavior analysis. She has been an educator for more than 20 years.

Dr. Yurick began her career working with adjudicated youth in a private facility in Northeast Ohio. Following this work, she served as a consultant for educational and behavioral initiatives with the Ohio Department of Youth Services, which works with individuals in the juvenile justice system. Additionally, she worked on various projects with the Nisonger Center at the Ohio State University, including federally funded technology innovation grants with the Office of Special Education Programs. These grants developed a transitional career-readiness curriculum and an e-mentoring program that facilitated partnerships with industry leaders to mentor youth in their areas of expertise. Other work has included reading intervention research with EL students and those with or at risk for disabilities.

In addition to her faculty role at CSU, Dr. Yurick is the director of the Community Learning Center for Children and Youth. This center is a year-round instructional facility that serves both College of Education students and faculty as well as K–12 learners from across the greater Cleveland community. Through her work with the CLC, Dr. Yurick has led initiatives to create in-person and remote learning opportunities in after-school programs across the region that provide individualized tutoring services for more than 200 K–12 learners.

Dr. Yurick received a bachelor’s degree in music from Kent State University. She received her master’s degree and doctorate in special education and applied behavior analysis from the Ohio State University. She is a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International and the Council for Exceptional Children.
