Dr. Aspasia Angelou has 25 years of educational experience as a teacher, teacher trainer, high school principal, and director of high school design and superintendent.
Aspasia Angelou is the daughter of immigrant parents and a native of Seattle, Washington, where she graduated from the University of Washington. She moved to Texas as an educator and teacher trainer in advanced placement, and then to Oklahoma as a school administrator for 8 years. She was named Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year in 2017 for the academic gains made by her students during her tenure in Oklahoma City. Despite challenges, they made great gains and were recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community School by Solution Tree. Dr. Angelou served the students, teachers, and community of Tulsa Public Schools as director of high school design in 2019, leading 4 schools through a redesign project. She is passionate about creating equitable learning environments, opportunities, and outcomes for all students. Her entire career has been committed to serving in Title I urban and rural schools.
Dr. Angelou was awarded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship to attend the 2017 Women Leading Education International conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2018, Dr. Angelou had the opportunity to visit innovative schools in China and collaborate with the Ministry of Education to increase STEM programming. Dr. Angelou has been a certified Solution Tree associate since 2018, working with priority schools and supporting district and site leaders, as well as teacher collaborative teams.
>p>Dr. Angelou received her doctoral degree in educational administration and leadership from Texas A&M University at Commerce, her master’s degree in educational administration from Texas Woman’s University, and holds her superintendent’s certification through the University of Oklahoma.
