Dena D. Slanda, PhD, is a research associate in the College of Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida. She is also a professor in residence for the Teacher Quality Partnership grant project, which emphasizes mathematics and disciplinary literacy for preservice teachers.

Dena D. Slanda, PhD, is a research associate in the College of Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida (UCF). She is a professor in residence for the Teacher Quality Partnership grant project, which emphasizes mathematics and disciplinary literacy for preservice teachers. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in intervention, evidence-based instructional strategies, data-based decision-making, and collaborative preparation, and she has served as an intensive reading and STEM teacher at the middle school level.
Dr. Slanda has a remarkable practitioner’s and researcher’s perspective in the field of special education, including a focus in inclusive practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, literacy, and multitiered system of supports. Her current professional activity includes serving as the editor in chief for the Journal of the Florida Association of Teacher Educators, president of the Florida Council for Exceptional Children, chair of the College of Community Innovation and Education Alumni Association, and co-principal investigator of several federally funded grants from the Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education.
Dr. Slanda is an accomplished advocate, researcher, presenter, leader of professional development, and author of books and peer-reviewed journal articles in the field of education and special education. She received a master’s degree in exceptional student education and a doctorate in education with emphasis in exceptional student education from UCF.
