Dennis Shirley, EdD, is Duganne faculty fellow and professor at the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College.
Among his awards and achievements, he has been a Richard von Weizsäcker fellow of the Bosch Foundation, a German chancellor fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and a C.J. Koh chair of the National Institute of Education in Singapore. He was also principal investigator of the Massachusetts Coalition for Teacher Quality and Student Achievement and has guided and worked with leaders of educational change in many countries.
Along with his Lynch School colleagues Deoksoon Kim and Stanton Wortham, he recently conducted an in-depth study of a school innovation network in Seoul, South Korea. His most recent book is Five Paths of Student Engagement: Blazing the Trail to Learning and Success (2021) which he authored with Andy Hargreaves.
He holds a doctorate from Harvard University.
