Kirk Savage, EdD, is an assistant superintendent for Chilliwack School District in British Columbia, Canada, where he has been working as a senior leadership team member since 2012. Dr. Savage has also been an elementary and a middle school principal and has taught at all levels, from elementary to secondary. He was a part-time secondee to the British Columbia Ministry of Education for ten years, developing provincial numeracy and literacy assessments. In 2017, he was a ministry outreach ambassador, assisting districts with implementing British Columbia’s competency-based curriculum.
Dr. Savage’s passion is curriculum and instruction, particularly the connection between instructional design and authentic assessment. He has coauthored two books, ANIE: A Math Assessment Tool that Reveals Learning and Informs Teaching and P.L.A.N. for Better Learning, which expands on his passion for using practical classroom examples that impact teaching efficacy, student engagement, and results.
Dr. Savage is a system leader who always strives for improvement while leading change. Whether it is strategic-plan development, middle school reconfiguration, or response to intervention implementation, he has the experience and expertise to lead improved student achievement and renewed culture in multiple contexts.
Dr. Savage earned his two bachelor’s degrees from the University of British Columbia, a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in public administration from the University of Kansas.
