Her own experience as a second language learner, combined with her teaching background, has increased her passion to work closely with minority students and other students learning English as a second language.
Laura is a member of the California Association of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She is also a member of the Margaret Heath Elementary leadership team, a Thinking Maps® trainer, and a No Excuses university facilitator. At Citrus College, she is one of two instructors assigned to AB86 Grant duties. She was named 2003 and 2014 Teacher of the Year by Margaret Heath Elementary and won the 2006 Outstanding Teacher Award from the Los Angeles County Bilingual Director’s Association.
Laura earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a specialization in history, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and a BCLAD certificate from California Polytechnic University. She also holds a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Anaheim University.
