Mary Ann Ranells, Ph.D., has over 45 years of experience in education as a teacher, principal, district administrator, and superintendent. She is passionate about coaching educators in professional learning communities to ensure high levels of learning for all.

Mary Ann Ranells

Mary Ann Ranells, Ph.D., has over 45 years of experience in education as a teacher, principal, district administrator, and superintendent. She served as deputy superintendent for the state of Idaho (2001–2004), led the Lakeland Joint School District for six years, and recently retired as superintendent of the West Ada School District.

Dr. Ranells has also been an adjunct professor, grant writer, and leader in numerous state and national education organizations. She currently consults with schools across the U.S.

An expert in standards-based instruction, curriculum alignment, assessment, and data-driven decision making, Dr. Ranells is passionate about coaching educators in professional learning communities (PLC) to ensure high levels of learning for all students. She also specializes in integrated project-based learning, emphasizing core standards, critical thinking, and student voice.

A four-time Teacher of the Year recipient, Dr. Ranells has received multiple honors, including the Idaho Association of School Administrators Leadership in Public Education Award and Idaho Superintendent of the Year (2019). She was also a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year by AASA.

Dr. Ranells holds a bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University, a master’s degree in education from the College of Idaho, and an education specialist degree and doctorate in educational administration from the University of Idaho.
