Richard L. Pease

Richard L. Pease has more than 30 years of experience as an education leader, serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, university professor, middle and high school principal, principal mentor, and district leader. He has initiated, led, and enhanced PLC practices in multiple schools, and he currently serves as principal of Vernon Barford School, a Model PLC school in Edmonton, Alberta.

Rick has extensive experience leading and sustaining positive educational environments in diverse settings through the application of Professional Learning Communities at Work® and RTI at Work™ concepts and processes. He has created positive sustained change in schools that initially possessed both very low and very high achievement. He also has experience with regular and specialized focus schools, as well as public, hybrid, and private schools.

Rick possesses a unique breadth of educational perspectives, having attended international schools employing the American system, the British system, and the Canadian system. He has also been a homestay parent for numerous international students and has been involved with educational learning visits, conversations, conferences, and exchanges with schools in various parts of the world.

All schools in which Rick have served have demonstrated significant and ongoing improvements related to learning, collaboration, culture, systems, and results. He is an expert at going from “me” to “we” leadership, thereby creating broad-based acceptance, ongoing commitment, and improved performance. Rick is proudest of the fact that, by helping multiple schools and colleagues enhance their PLC knowledge and systems, additional opportunities and brighter futures for more students have been created.

Rick earned two bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree, and was admitted to PhD programs in the faculties of business, education, and physical education, before choosing to focus his energies on K–12 public education.
