Robert Mountjoy

Robert Mountjoy is the former principal of West Side Elementary School in Rossville, Georgia, where he led his staff in developing a collaborative culture centered around the three big ideas of a professional learning community (PLC). Robert redirected the school’s focus back to a deeper understanding of student achievement through application of effective social-emotional skills in developing the whole person using evidence-based practices.

Prior to serving as principal, Robert also served as an assistant principal and special education teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels. He is passionate about equity, data-driven practices, and schoolwide systems.

Believing that everyone has genius and that every student can learn at high levels, Robert led West Side Elementary to be recognized by Solution Tree as a National Model PLC at Work® school in 2020.

By implementing evidence-based, social-emotional learning practices, Robert led West Side Elementary in being recognized globally by Franklin Covey Education as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School in 2021. West Side Elementary was the first school in the state of Georgia to be recognized with both honors.

Robert also worked collaboratively with other district leaders and principals in making The Catoosa County School System a Model PLC at Work district by creating a focus on collaboration, the four critical questions of a PLC, and systems designed to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum.

Robert earned both a master’s and education specialist degree in educational leadership from Tennessee Technological University.
