Thrive in Life & Career
Q&A with Tina Boogren
What inspires or drives your work?
I am a fierce advocate for educators and take immense pride in helping individuals, schools, and districts create an environment where everyone has the tools and strategies that they need in order to thrive both inside and outside the classroom, for the sake of the students they serve. As a lifelong educator, I understand the unique challenges of this work and am so grateful for every opportunity that I have to help serve educators and students alike.
What challenges will Take Time for You help educators overcome?
We’ve all heard the classic airline safety announcement before: You must secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others. This isn’t just for travelers, though, it’s also true for us as educators. By utilizing a research-based framework for self-care, I help educators learn how to monitor their own emotions and reactions and then develop their own personalized self-care plans. Through the use of specific tools, strategies, reflection prompts, and surveys, readers will walk away feeling grounded, more balanced, and inspired to take care of themselves so they can engage, empower, and motivate their students.
How does 180 Days of Self-Care for Busy Educators give educators daily strategies for prioritizing their self-care?
In my book 180 Days of Self-Care for Busy Educators, I present a new theme, invitation, and options for simple self-care activities each week that are based on the latest research. The invitations help readers put the curated research into action every day, thus providing a daily opportunity for self-care. Some weeks are open to choosing strategies that speak to you, the reader, and some weeks are more structured, based on the particular theme.
What can you tell us about your newest book, Coaching for Professional Wellness?
This is the book that pulls all of my previous work together, in one place. I address the four types of support that coaches and leaders can provide to teachers, differentiated by those who are new to the profession, those who are new to the building, and those who are experienced educators. By considering physical, institutional, emotional, and instructional support strategies, we can fully wrap our arms around our teachers.
