Tammy Miller

Tammy Miller is the former director of education for the Monroe County Community School Corporation in Bloomington, Indiana. Under Tammy’s leadership, the district utilized the professional learning community framework to advance from “Improvement” status with a state letter grade of D to an A, sustaining A-level status for the past five years.

Tammy has a deep passion for improving student literacy and has systematically tackled and redefined literacy-based challenges, finding innovative approaches that result in proven solutions. In her work with a school devoted to students struggling in a variety of academic and social areas, she identified literacy as the root cause of student achievement barriers. To tackle this challenge, she developed an acceleration model, as well as digital tools to address missing skill sets, and uncovered a new methodology. With her drive and expertise, student literacy improved by two and a half grade levels in only two months.

Tammy’s areas of expertise also include developing learning communities, creating and executing competency-based learning, and training school administrators.

She received a bachelor of science in elementary education from Indiana University and a master of science in administration from Butler University.

“Tammy, you have been a lifesaver. I wish we could have you in our building every day — just to keep bolstering us and providing your amazing guidance. The two days we spent together have definitely put my students on a path to more mastery. Thank you so much for being you!”

Kristen Taylor, Ph.D., principal, Jefferson Elementary School, Missouri

“The time with our on-site coach, Tammy Miller, was like a workout that you don’t want to do but know you need to do. Tammy is definitely pushing us outside our comfort zone to help us get our kids to read. We are already looking forward to her session with us next month.”

Candis D. Dean, principal, Lake Placid Elementary, Florida

“Our work with Solution Tree and Tammy Miller specifically has been the catalyst that we needed to honestly evaluate our strengths and weaknesses and purposefully plan for to reach the needs of our students. Tammy has the innate ability to know people and understand various personalities that encompass a school. When I observe Tammy working with my staff, it is magic; clarity is realized, ownership gained, and confidence grown. She individualizes conversations, all the while keeping the schoolwide goals (student growth) in the forefront. Our staff is indebted to Tammy, her tenacity, her care, and her intellect. I wish she were on site each and every day! Our school made the highest growth in our district and the second highest in the state. I attribute this growth to our work with Tammy Miller.”
