Cara Shores is coordinator of exceptional education in Bartow County Schools, a Model Professional Learning Communities at Work® district. She works with K–12 educators and students with IEPs, coordinates professional learning, oversees multitiered systems of supports, and is an instructional coach.

Cara Shores

Cara Shores is currently coordinator of exceptional education in Bartow County Schools, a Model Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work® district. Striving to increase learning for all, she works with K–12 educators and students with IEPs, including students learning an alternate curriculum. She coordinates all exceptional education professional learning, including yearlong academies for new teachers, lead teachers, developing leaders, and behavior change for Tiers 1–3. In addition, she oversees the multitiered system of supports (MTSS) in all district schools and serves as an instructional coach for the Bartow Project, a district-level initiative to support the PLC process. Cara previously served as an exceptional-education teacher in inclusive and resource classrooms, lead exceptional-education teacher, SST/RTI coordinator, and director of special education.

Cara has 15 years of experience as an author and consultant throughout the United States and Canada. She has been a keynote and featured presenter at national and state conferences for the Council for Exceptional Children, Council for Administrators of Special Education, National Middle School Association, Sopris West, Educators Publishing, Staff Development Resources, Southern Alberta Professional Development Consortium, Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium, and Calgary Regional Learning Consortium. She is the author of three best-selling books on RTI and served as Editor of the Best of Corwin RTI Series. In 2010, she was named as a Corwin Million Dollar Author.

Cara earned an education specialist degree in special education and leadership as well as the master of education degree in special education from the University of West Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Jacksonville State University.
