David Jones

David Jones has more than 25 years of experience in education and is currently serving as a Solution Tree associate, supporting schools throughout the country with the professional learning community (PLC) and response to intervention (RTI) school improvement processes.

David was the superintendent for Bonsall Unified School District in California. Prior to his work with Bonsall USD, he was the superintendent and principal of the Vallecitos School District in San Diego County. He was previously an elementary school principal in the Del Mar Union School District, an assistant principal in the Orange Unified School District, and taught grades 3, 5, and 6 in the Bloomington School District in Minnesota.

David has been named the San Diego County Superintendent of the Year for small school districts, and the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education Administrator of the Year. He and his staff were presented with the Title I Academic Achievement Award from the California Department of Education. Additionally, staff were also honored to be part of a Model PLC at Work® school, recognized for its exemplary work in establishing a high-achieving professional learning community. David was selected to present on leadership and improving student achievement for the Bill Gates Foundation.

David holds bachelor’s degrees in aeronautical studies, and an additional bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Dakota. He received a master’s degree in education from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota, as well as a master’s degree in educational administration from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
