Diane is an educational consultant and former assistant principal at Mason Crest Elementary School in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), Virginia. She supports schools around the country in their journey of becoming high-functioning Professional Learning Communities at Work™, and she especially enjoys working with schools with diverse student populations. During her tenure as a co-principal at Mason Crest, the school earned the distinction of becoming the very first recipient of the coveted DuFour Award, recognizing the top-performing PLCs in North America. Before joining the Mason Crest team, Diane was one of two English for speakers of other languages coordinators for the FCPS school system of over 180,000 students. She supervised and led multiple teams who provided services to schools, parents, and students. She was a sought-after resource to other central office programs. Working in Connecticut, Bahrain, and Virginia, Diane’s career has always focused on collaboratively supporting students with diverse needs and specifically teaching English to speakers of other languages to all ages of learners.
Throughout her career in education, Diane has provided professional development in many venues, including presenting to large groups of school leaders, school boards, teachers, and teacher teams. She has taught classes at the university level on differentiation and meeting the needs of diverse learners. She was a part of a team who helped contributing author Brian Butler of It’s About Time write the chapter “Collaboration in the Core.” Currently, she is a presenter at the Solution Tree institutes Soluciones, PLC at Work™, and the first-ever Culture Keepers Institute.
Diane has an EdS, endorsement in preK–12 administration and supervision from the University of Virginia and holds a master’s in teaching degree with an endorsement in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Sacred Heart University. She holds a bachelor of science degree in economics from the College of Charleston.
