Kathryn Fishman-Weaver

Kathryn Fishman-Weaver, PhD, is an educator, author, school leader, and international lecturer. She began her teaching career in a public K–8 school in Oakland, California, and has since taught and led programs in special education, gifted education, English language arts, and teacher preparation. She currently serves as the executive director of Mizzou Academy.

Dr. Fishman-Weaver supports the University of Missouri’s teacher education program by coordinating and teaching required courses on culturally responsive and ethical teaching. Prior to her appointment as executive director, she served for five years as the director of academic affairs and engagement for Mizzou Academy during a period of rapid international growth.

Dr. Fishman-Weaver holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology, a master’s degree in special education, and a PhD in educational leadership and policy analysis. She is the author or coauthor of six books in education: Wholehearted Teaching of Gifted Young Women (2018), When Your Child Learns Differently (2019), Brain-Based Learning with Gifted Students (2020), Connected Classrooms (coauthored with Stephanie Walter, 2022), Teaching Women’s and Gender Studies Grades 6–8 (coauthored with Jill Clingan, forthcoming 2022), and Teaching Women’s and Gender Studies Grades 9–12 (coauthored with Jill Clingan, forthcoming 2022). Her work has appeared in numerous publications and been referenced by the US Department of Education.
