Madeleine Rogin

Madeleine Rogin is a change leader for Ashoka’s Start Empathy Initiative and Changemaker Schools Network. An educator of young children for more than 20 years, she is a kindergarten and dance teacher at Prospect Sierra School in El Cerrito, California. She has also served as a summer school principal for a local public school district. Beginning in the fall of 2022, Madeleine will be the program director for Step One School, an early childhood education center in Berkeley, California.

Madeleine received national recognition as the winner of the Great American Teach-Off in 2013 for developing the Peaceful Changemakers Curriculum as a way of teaching young children about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and social justice. Madeleine is a member of the California Kindergarten Association and won its 2014 Audrey Sanchez Teacher Enhancement Award.

Madeleine received a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and urban education from Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School, a master’s degree in dance with a focus on the African aesthetic from the University of New Mexico, a teaching credential from St. Mary’s College of California, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute.
