NeTassha Rendón

NeTassha Rendón, PhD, is the principal at John Muir Language Academy (UTK-8) in San Diego Unified School District. As an educator, she has served in a unique series of positions, including mentor principal, academic specialist, professional development presenter, college professor, and bilingual teacher.

Dr. Rendón’s passion is to equip and empower teachers, administrators, and school teams with the tools to ensure all students learn at high levels, and her diverse background provides rich insights toward this goal. Dr. Rendón is passionate about promoting systems thinking, shared ownership, intentional instructional decision making, an “everyone can” culture, and an “all in” mentality through the use of collaborative teams.

Dr. Rendón excels in teaching others how to use formative assessments to increase learning for all, using assessment to improve learning outcomes, and creating aligned instructional frameworks to guarantee high levels of learning for every student. During her principalship in Irving ISD, she was responsible for implementing and monitoring the Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work® process and led her school to become the first Model PLC at Work elementary in the district. She was also recognized by the Texas Commissioner of Education in 2019 for moving her school from a C rating to an A rating in one academic school year.

Dr. Rendón earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies (education) from the University of North Texas, a master’s in educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, and a PhD in curriculum and instruction at the University of North Texas.
