Nick Stever

Nick Stever is the principal of Bernice Ayer Middle School in San Clemente, California. With more than 20 years in education, Nick has firsthand experience with the PLC process as a teacher and administrator at the middle school and high school levels, and he understands how to bring secondary teams together to increase student achievement.

Nick has successfully led the professional learning community (PLC) process at multiple schools, including a Title I middle school in the Central Valley of California and his current school, Bernice Ayer Middle School. Bernice Ayer is a dual-immersion school with the second highest number of multilingual learners in the Capistrano Unified School District. Under his leadership, Bernice Ayer has received national accolades, earning recognition as a 2018 National School to Watch®, 2019 California Distinguished School, 2020 California PBIS Platinum School, 2021 Model PLC at Work® school, and 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award recipient. Nick was also recognized as Capistrano Unified School District’s first ever Secondary Administrator of the Year.

Nick specializes in implementing the critical steps to become an effective PLC, as well as creating the culture and collaborative conditions necessary to embrace and promote high levels of learning for all. Under his leadership, his schools expertly utilize data analysis and intervention systems, attracting more than 250 educators to visit and study the work of his teams.

Nick earned a bachelor's degree and master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University.
