Leticia Amalla has 30 years of educational experience as a teacher, principal and executive director in Ector County ISD and Midland ISD in the West Texas area. Her areas of expertise include gifted and talented, bilingual and special education. As a principal in Midland ISD, she experienced tremendous success as a turnaround school principal, leveraging every aspect of the professional learning communities (PLC) framework as one of the vital components of school improvement.

Leticia is passionate about continuous school improvement and increasing the academic performance of all student groups including emergent bilingual, economically disadvantaged, special education and gifted and talented students via full implementation of PLC.

Leticia has established a track record for leading campuses out of “Improvement Required” status. In the spring of 2017, she became the principal of South Elementary in Midland, Texas, a campus that was on the state’s “Improvement Required” list for five consecutive years. At the end of her first year, the campus was designated as “Met Standard” and earned a distinction designation in “Comparative Academic Growth.” She and her team were committed to full implementation of the PLC at Work® process. Similarly, Leticia and her team led Burnet Elementary out of “Improvement Required” status and earned a campus distinction designation in science in 2017. Again, one of her main campus initiatives was full implementation of the PLC at Work process.

Leticia attended Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in multicultural studies. Additionally, she earned a master’s degree in special education and completed 30 hours of post-graduate coursework in the area of educational leadership and language acquisition.
