Paul Cancellieri
Paul Cancellieri is a National Board Certified eighth-grade science teacher at Rolesville Middle School in North Carolina. After starting his professional life as a scientist, Paul discovered a passion for teaching and has spent the past 23 years engaging students with his science experience and sense of humor. He leverages a strong understanding of power and pitfalls of educational technology to help teachers create engaging learning opportunities, especially in the areas of grading/assessment and the integration of AI.
Paul earned a fellowship from the Kenan Fellows Program in 2011 and continues to give back by serving on the faculty, crafting and delivering hands-on learning experiences to some of the best teachers in North Carolina. In 2016, he coauthored Creating a Culture of Feedback with his friend and colleague William M. Ferriter, tapping into his expertise in technological innovations that inspire teachers to provide more high-quality feedback to students.
Never one to shy away from an experiment, Paul became one of the first K–12 educators to develop curricula around the use of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) as tools like ChatGPT emerged. He wrote Fifty AI Prompts for Teachers, sharing his best practices with teachers everywhere. Paul continues to innovate around student AI use and the development of ethical classroom cultures to promote positive applications for learning.
