Tania Amerson

Tania Amerson is executive director of exceptional education for the Bartow County School System, a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work® district, where she cultivates a PLC culture by providing support to collaborative teams and schools. With 30 years of experience in the field of special education, she’s served as a special education teacher, instructional coach, educational evaluator, and administrator.

As executive director, Tania leads the PLC process within the exceptional education department. She works diligently to ensure that a guaranteed, viable curriculum is available for all students and that high levels of learning are expected of all students. Additionally, she oversees that all teachers are active in collaboration. She established a department-level guiding coalition to support PLC work in schools and instituted virtual collaboration teams for students served in multigrade, self-contained settings. As a leader in her district, Tania presented at various meetings and provided training courses throughout her tenure in Bartow County. She also served as a team member of Project Bartow, a system initiative designed to support collaborative teams.

Tania is an active member of the Georgia Council for Special Education Administrators and currently serves on the executive board as the communications chairperson. In 2020, she received the Phil Pickens Parent Mentor Leadership Award.

Tania received her bachelor’s degree in special/elementary education at Eastern Illinois University. She earned her master’s and specialist degrees from the University of West Georgia.
