Taylar Wenzel

Taylar Wenzel, EdD, is a faculty member in the College of Education and Human Performance at the University of Central Florida. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education and regularly supervises teacher candidates. Her research focuses on the role of children’s cognitive and metacognitive strategy use across reading and mathematics contexts and the use of lesson study with preservice teachers across disciplines. Dr. Wenzel’s classroom experience includes work as a public-school teacher and instructional coach.

Through her work at UCF, Dr. Wenzel initiated professional development school partnerships with two urban schools in the Orlando area. At each of these schools, she regularly teaches model lessons, facilitates meetings of professional learning communities, and supports administrators and coaches to initiate instructional change. She is also the cofounder of the UCF Enrichment Programs in Literacy and Mathematics, a collaboration with other faculty members, through which undergraduate and graduate students provide intervention to K–8 students in the central Florida area.

Dr. Wenzel regularly presents her work at regional, national, and international conferences, as well as invited keynote addresses. She advises numerous school districts and education agencies and has published articles, book chapters, and professional development handbooks.

Dr. Wenzel earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics and science education from the University of Florida and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Central Florida.
